New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is discussing all possible options for holding the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), even organizing the event outside the country.
A BCCI source told ANI, “The board is looking at all options. If it comes to taking the IPL out of India, it could happen but as a final option.”
The source said, “If this is the only option we will consider it. We have done it in the past as well and we can do it again, but the first priority will be to host it in India.”
The 2020 edition of the IPL, which began on March 29, has been postponed indefinitely due to the coronovirus crisis.
This will not be the first time the league is out of India as the IPL 2009 was hosted by South Africa and the 2014 edition was staged in India and the UAE.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday deferred a decision on ‘All Agenda Items’ by 10 June. The source said nothing has been finalized yet and they will wait to get clarity on the T20 World Cup, which will be played in Australia from 18 October – 15 November.
“We will wait for clarity on the T20 World Cup from ICC before discussing anything. But I can tell that no decision has been taken yet,” the source said.
