Joe Biden to accept Democratic presidential nomination in mostly virtual Wisconsin convention

Washington: Former US Vice President Joe Biden will formally accept his Democratic presidential nomination on August 20 at the party’s enlarged convention in the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Biden, 77, is challenging 74-year-old Republican President Donald Trump in the November 3 presidential elections. According to major opinion polls, he is leading Trump by more than eight percentage points.
In the wake of the coronavirus epidemic, the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) announced on Wednesday to broadcast its convention plan to reach all Americans from Milwaukee and across the country.
At the convention, Democrats would officially nominate Biden as the Democratic nominee for the presidency, with the DNCC saying it announced plans to go virtual during the four-day event.
It also reiterated the party’s commitment to protecting public health, changing the conference experience for delegates and spectators.
Planners at the convention said the host city, Milwaukee, will host events for the week. He said the programming would include live broadcasts and curated content from Milwaukee and other satellite cities, locations and destinations in the country.
“Vice President Biden intends to proudly accept his party’s nomination in Milwaukee and take the next step towards making Donald Trump a one-term president,” said Jane Genmel Dillon, campaign manager, Biden for President .
“The City of Milwaukee has been an incredible partner and we are committed to highlighting Wisconsin as an important battleground at our conference this August. It will be a conference for all Americans who wish to join our mission So that we can win the battle of our souls. This country has created a fair, more united country for all of us.
Anchorage in Milwaukee every night, will include four nights of programming from August 17–20. The overall production of the conference’s schedule, including satellite broadcasting, will be produced by nine-time Emmy-Award winning producer Ricky Kirshner.
Kirshner has served as the executive producer of the Tony Awards since 2004, the Super Bowl halftime show – the most-watched television program of the year since 2007 – and every Democratic National Convention since 1992.
DNC Chairman Tom Perez said, “Leadership means adapting to any situation. That’s what we did with our session.”
“Unlike this president (Trump), Joe Biden and the Democrats are committed to protecting the health and safety of the American people,” he said.
According to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, contagion infection has infected more than 9.4 million people and killed more than 482,000 people worldwide.
The US is the most affected country with more than 2.3 million cases and more than 1,21,000 deaths.
COVID-19, which originated in China’s Wuhan city in December last year, has also battered the world economy with the International Monetary Fund saying that the global economy is suffering from “severe recession”.
Scientists are racing against time to find a vaccine or medicine to treat it.
