KARACHI: Power supply was restored in most parts of the city before midnight on Saturday following joint efforts of K Electric and National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC).
According to the statement, KEK’s 220kV additional high-tension network experienced tripping on Saturday afternoon with 220kVNKI Municipality 1 and 2 circuits.
“The NTDC and KE teams immediately responded by liaising closely to restore the circuits,” read the statement.
It said that connectivity to the national grid and subsequent power supply to all affected grids was restored within an hour.
“Power supply to KWSB (Karachi Water Supply Board) water pumping stations, airports and major hospitals in the city has also been restored on priority basis,” the statement said.
It added that areas such as North Nazimabad, Lyari, Federal B Area, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Defense and Clifton also became the norm “in a few hours”.
Rehabilitation work in some of the remaining affected parts of the city is “on an urgent basis,” the statement said, adding that KEI teams are assisting with ground efforts.
According to KE, during the restoration process, initial reports were received that smoke had been taken from one of the four busbars used for power supply from KK Bin Qasim Power Station 1 while no one from the race No error found.
“Bad buses were isolated and replacement buses were used to bring BQPS1 back online,” he said.
“Power is being supplied to the city from BQPS2, NKI and IPPS while the entire load of BQPS1 will be added to the system in the next few hours,” KE added.
Minister for Energy Hamad Azhar and officials from the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) praised the joint efforts, saying: “Close liaison between the government and the KE teams helped us to overcome the situation in a very short time. I also had the opportunity to start rapid recovery efforts.
However, closures have been reported in many areas
Even when KE issued a statement saying that most of the city has been restored to power, several areas have been told that they are still facing difficulties.
Power supply to Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 10A and Gulistan-e-Johar Block 16A has been suspended for two hours (at the time of this report).
Model Colony, in the area of Scheme 33, was reportedly suspended for several hours.
Karachi Race Club, Revenue Judicial Society has also been informed that power supply has been suspended for several hours.
Federal B Area Block 21 is reported to be out since 10 a.m.
Residents of Nagan Chowrangi said they were without power for three hours.
It is said in Garden West that the power has been cut off since 8 pm.
In addition, power outages were reported in Malir Rafa Aam and adjoining areas from 10:30 pm and in Korangi No. 5 from 10 pm.
