Kovid-19 Vaccination: California Launches Vaccination for All People 16 and Over

San Francisco: California, America’s most populous state, has opened Kovid-19 vaccination appointments to all ages 16 and older.
The latest version of the state’s inoculation scheduling tool My Turn said on Thursday, “Safe, free and effective Kovid-19 vaccines are now available for everyone 16 and older.”
“End this epidemic,” said California public health officials on the page, urging residents to check available appointments and book their vaccinations as soon as possible.
Governor Gavin Newsome said Thursday morning that about 50 percent of the state’s eligible residents have been vaccinated so far.
“We have taken more than 24 million doses than any other state. We have the lowest positivity rate in the country,” he said.
The state, for about 40 million residents, had expanded the vaccine’s eligibility for people 50 and older starting April 1.
California on Tuesday stopped use of the Johnson & Johnson Kovid-19 vaccine according to recommendations from two federal health agencies.
State officials said the move would not have much effect, as less than 4 percent of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine was included in the state’s vaccine allocation this week.
California is one of the most difficult states in the country.
It has seen the highest ever in the country, with more than 3.6 million cases and 59,000 deaths from both epidemics.
New Kovid-19 cases, deaths and hospitalizations have continued to decline in recent weeks.
Newsom announced earlier this month that the state had plans to fully reopen by June 15 if vaccination was widely available and fewer hospitals associated with the virus.
