London: Manchester United have a big opportunity to finish in the top four when the Premier League starts this month after a three-month halt, according to their former striker Dimitar Berbatov.
United were in fifth place when the Premier League ground stalled due to a coronovirus epidemic, but were in good form and only three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
“This is a huge opportunity for United and they know it,” Berbatov said. “Hopefully, they will be ready for that challenge because three points is nothing.”
Berbatov believes that Paul Pogba may again give United an edge.
The French midfielder has been sidelined for the majority of the campaign due to a leg injury, but the break has allowed him to recover, a boost for manager Ole Gunnar Solskar.
“This is very good news for the team. The dangerous thing is that he did not play for so long,” said Betfair Ambassador Berbarisov.
“Coming back from a long injury could affect him starting, it would be interesting to see if Solaskar put him in a straight fight.
“This will be the first time we (Bruno) Fernandes and Pogba will be seen playing together and it will be interesting to see if they can hit it. It could be a great partnership.”
Berbatov says fans should not expect the usual high-tempo games when the game resumes in empty stadiums.
“I look forward to seeing how the Bulgarians prepare the teams physically and mentally.”
“It will be interesting to see how long the game will take to reach the same level of quality, speed and intensity.
“It can be like watching a friendly or training session, the way some of the Bundesliga matches have felt.”
The Premier League is scheduled to begin on 17 June.
