According to cybersecurity company McAfee, cloud-based cyber attacks by external actors on businesses increased by 630 percent between January and April 2020. Titled ‘Cloud Adoption and Risk Report – Work-from-Home Edition’, the report reveals a connection between increased use of cloud services and collaboration tools such as Cisco WebEx, Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Slack for growth in cyber services .

The report claimed that most of these external attacks are aimed at accessing cloud credentials with critical collaboration services such as Microsoft 365 and targeted collaboration services.

The dataset of the report covers companies from all major industries around the world including financial services, healthcare, public sector, education, retail, technology, manufacturing, energy, utilities, legal, real estate, transportation and business services.

This reveals a significant increase in the use of cloud services by companies, which in addition to the use of unmanaged devices leads to increased lockdown and cloud-native threats. According to the report, the adoption of cloud services by enterprises increased by 50 percent. These enterprises primarily include industries such as manufacturing and financial services and education sectors that rely on legacy on-campus applications, networking and security compared to others.

The report states that these trends emphasize the need for new security delivery models in today’s distributed door-to-door environment and also indicate the future.

“Access to the cloud by unmanned, personal devices has doubled, adding another layer of risk to security professionals working in the cloud to protect their data,” the report said. has gone.

The report also gives some suggestions that may help enterprises to secure their technical infrastructure. These include intraoperative cloud-delivery network security and cloud-native data security to reduce complexity and increase security effectiveness and accountability.
