Lucknow: Kovid-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh have crossed the 6,500 mark, with 229 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The state also recorded eight deaths, taking the Kovid-19 casualties to 169.
Two deaths occurred in Meerut, while one each occurred in Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Pratapgarh, Gorakhpur, Bareilly and Etawah. The total number of Kovid-19 positive cases in fresh cases was 6,528, of which 3,660 have been recovered. The number of active cases is 2699.
He said that migrant workers are the biggest contributors to UP’s Kovid rally. “Asha workers who return home to migrant workers and laborers are being monitored, who have screened 8.5 lakh migrants so far.”
According to the state government report, samples of 54,849 people from other states have been collected based on the screening of ASHA workers. 1,663 of them have been found positive. This means, more than 60% of active cases in UP are migrants.
Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, Amit Mohan Prasad said that a bulk of the patients active in the state now comprised of migrant workers, adding that the surveillance was on in full swing. “More than 91,000 teams are under surveillance. These teams surveyed 72.18 lakh households to cover a population of over 3.63 crore,” he said.
