Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday supported the country’s farmers to protest and said he will fight for his rights, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is ready to take bread and land from them.
“On the first day of #BhetiBachaoYatra, a new energy was realized by meeting farmers and farmers of Punjab. Today the Modi government is intent on snatching bread from the mouth and feet of the Annadata of the country. But you are not alone. I promise to always support you in your rights fight, ”Rahul Gandhi said on Twitter.
The Congress leader took out a tractor rally today and addressed a public meeting in Moga district of Punjab and heavily criticized the government-led policies and laws for farmers.
Three agricultural bills passed by the government have triggered protests by farmers across the country. These include the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill; Farmer (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill; And Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill.
Gandhi, during his address, closed three recently passed legislations, saying, “The Prime Minister says that laws are being made for farmers.” If laws are being made for farmers, then why did you not argue in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha? “
He also rejected conflicting claims made by several leaders in the government, including the Prime Minister, who have assumed that the farmers are happy with these laws and welcomed the move by ruling distribution.
“And if the farmers are happy with these laws, then why are they agitating across the country? Why is every farmer in Punjab agitating? Gandhi asked.
Gandhi also told the farmers that if the Congress votes, then these laws will be repealed.
