LONDON: MQM London boss Altaf Hussain has been shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Barnett Hospital in Chippewa Burnett after taking a positive test in COVID-19 a few weeks ago.

Staff confirmed this during a visit to the hospital on Monday News That MQM leaders are under intensive care in their COVID-19 ward. He was not allowed to see any visitors – friends or family members – for the corona virus epidemic.

In an audio message on Sunday night, the MQM leader, in a trembling voice, appealed to his followers to pray for him after the announcement that he was in the ICU.

“I have been in the ICU in the hospital for the last 20 days. It is because of you [supporters’] I pray that I have been able to record this message on Saturday, January 30, 2021, ”said the former Karachi strongman.

Hussein added, “May Allah protect everyone from this disease, Coveid 19.” He appealed to listeners to “be careful and help each other.”

An MQM source said that the party chief fell ill about three weeks ago.

With a long history of many diseases due to obesity and an allegedly unhealthy lifestyle, Hussein was advised to stay away from home. However, when his condition worsened, he had to be rushed to hospital.

The MQM boss was kept on a ventilator for about five days before showing signs of recovery.

On January 23, the MQM said in a statement that the party’s founders were ill and taking a break from politics. After the examination, doctors advised him to rest and suspend his political activities.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Mustafa Azizabadi said Hussein was recovering well and his condition had improved. He added that the party chief had thanked his supporters for praying for him.
