Mumbai: Rupali Patil, a student of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, on Wednesday, Dr. Rupali was very happy to be addressed as Patil. Patil was the first student of the University of Mumbai to be awarded a doctorate in the online open defense viva during lockdown, which disrupted the teaching-learning process in the city.

When she was a university student, her resource center was registered at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology. He defended his PhD thesis on Wednesday before external examinations from IIT-Bombay and Jondhale College of Engineering. Patil said, “I did not expect Viva to be on the online platform. But it went smoothly. I was asked about 12-14 questions from external examinees. It lasted for a good one and a half hours.” TOI His research on ‘Documented Signal Retrieval and Identification’ can help in various fields, including weather forecasts. He first registered for PhD in 2014 and had Ramesh Karandikar from KJ Somaiya College of Engineering as his guide.

The university followed all the UGC guidelines for the online Viva scheme. Now there are vivas for eight subjects in science and technology and four subjects in anthropology in the pipeline in the next few days.
