He said the government was “shaken by the fear of losing” such decisions.

Maryam said that Asif had told her a few days ago that “someone from NAB” had called her and asked her to “leave Nawaz Sharif” and wrap up her affairs in “15-20 days” But he said he has a long life with the PML-N supremo and “will never leave him.”

Khawaja Asif told him that he could do whatever he wanted […] He was told that he would have to suffer the consequences […] “And then it happens a few days later,” he said.

“People look to the judiciary and still hope that they will ensure justice in Pakistan,” Maryam said.

He said that if the government thinks that it can imprison the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (Shahbaz Sharif) and the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly (Hamza Shahbaz) and now the PML-N parliamentary leader has been arrested. The NAB issued a statement

Later that night, the NAB Lahore issued a statement confirming that the PML-N leader had been arrested as a result of an investigation into assets outside known sources of income.

According to the statement, Asif will be produced in the Islamabad Accountability Court for transit remand.

The statement said that investigations are underway against the accused under Section (V) of the National Accountability Ordinance 1999 and Section (3) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act 2010.

According to the NAB Lahore statement, “Accused Khawaja Asif allegedly made assets in excess of his income by concealing the nature, sources and transfer of assets.”

The statement said that Asif had become a senator in 1991, later he had also served as a federal minister and had been an MNA in various government terms.

Before assuming public office, his total assets were valued at 5.1 million (Rs. 51 lakh) in 1991. However, after holding various positions till 2018, the value of his assets reached 2221 million (Rs. 22.1 crore) which does not match his apparent income. Statement

It further states that Asif has claimed to have earned Rs 1,130 million (Rs 13 crore) from a job in a UAE company called M / SIMECO. However, during the interrogation, he could not provide any concrete proof of this amount as salary.

“This clearly shows that the accused wanted to prove his assets through fake sources of income,” the statement said.

The NAB alleged that Asif was also running a company named “Tariq Mir & Company” under the name of his employee Tariq Mir. An amount of Rs. 400 million (Rs. 40 crore) was deposited in his bank account but no source of funds could be provided.

He noted that his overseas employment has been the subject of hearings in the Supreme Court as well as in the High Court, where it has been observed that there is “no legal restriction” on holding public office with private employment.

The statement said that the purpose of the NAB inquiry was to find out whether the foreign income declared by Khawaja Asif was correct or not.

The NAB said in its statement that its inquiry had revealed that the accused Khawaja Asif was in Pakistan during the alleged period of employment abroad while the employment documents abroad were presented only to be declared as fake sources of income.

It said no paper trail of his income from working abroad was provided
