NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Sports Has extended the deadline to submit applications for National Sports award Until 22 June and also allowed athletes to nominate themselves due to “difficulties” between COVID-19 lockdowns to find recommenders.

The ministry has invited only e-mail applications this year due to the epidemic.
As per the laid down criteria, nominations for the National Award can be made only with the recommendation of the National Federation, Sports Board and former awardees.
Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju issued a statement on Wednesday, saying the move is aimed at making the nomination process easier for athletes.
“The country is facing an unusual situation and the need of the hour is to bend the nomination rules National Sports Awards To ensure that the athletes are not harmed in any way, ”he said.
“The nationwide lockdown has made it very difficult for most of them to receive recommendations for nominations from competent authorities or individuals,” he said.

The awards, including the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, are given every year on August 29, on the birth anniversary of hockey wizard Dhyanchand, which is also celebrated as National Sports Day.
