Nine girls serve as officers for a day in UP

JHANSI: Nine meritorious girl students topping the board exams were made for one day as top administrative officers of various departments in Jhansi district to celebrate the Navratri festival, which celebrates nine incarnations of the Mother Goddess.

Held on Saturday in the Maranipur tehsil, the event was a part of the ongoing ‘Mission Shakti’ program in Uttar Pradesh to empower women.

Sunaina Mishra got a chance to serve as SDM; Nancy Gupta as Circle Officer; Deeksha Ahirwar as Tehsildar; Lineage as agricultural officer; Kritika as Education Officer; Kumkum as SHO; Anjali Gupta as BDO; Ashi Gupta as CHC chief and Kanchan Aggarwal as EO.

All nine girls were brought from their homes in official vehicles to their offices on Saturday morning and given the opportunity to serve as officers for the day.

He discharged his official duties for the whole day under the guidance of the officers who were present to help him.

The girls passed orders and marked the complainants’ applications to the concerned departments with instructions.

Sunaina, who was serving as SDM, later told reporters that she was excited and thrilled to handle the duties.

Sunaina finished second in class 12th and is preparing for NEET, and after her experience serving as SDM, she said that she will now appear for the Civil Services Examination after completing MBBS.

Nancy Gupta, who was the Circle Officer (CO) for the day, enrolled for the BSC and aims to pursue a doctorate.

SDM Maranipur Ankur Srivastava, who was the brains behind the initiative, said that the ‘experiment’ was being completed. He said that he hoped it would make the children try harder for their goals.
