Odisha announced International Literary Award in memory of Manoj Das

BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday announced an International Literary Award in memory of noted bilingual litterateur Manoj Das. The state government will also set up a library and museum in Das’s ancestral house in Sankhari village in Balasore district, the CM announced.

The award will be given every year to Odisha’s leading writers for their notable contributions to English literature. The award will include a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh.

In addition, to generate interest among school children for creative writing in English and Odia language, the Chief Minister announced the ‘Manoj Kishore Sahitya Pratibha Samman’, an annual literature award for high school students. The award will be given for writing in both Odia and English languages ​​and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh each.

The great writer Manoj Das, recipient of Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, who has written hundreds of stories, novels, fictions, poems and columns, died in Puducherry on Tuesday in English and Odia languages.

In keeping with the request of Das’s family members, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced the inclusion of the ancestral house as the Manmath-Manoj Memorial, where the pioneering works of writer Das and his elder brother and eminent historian Manmohan Das Will be displayed in a library and museum.
