Odisha College News: Odisha College plans to tie up with top Indian universities for teacher training

BHUBANESWAR: The Department of Higher Education is planning to tie up with top Indian universities like Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to conduct refresher training programs for college teachers in Odisha.

There are about 500 government and aided non-government degree colleges in the state, which impart general undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) education in science, humanities and commerce streams. “While regular refresher training requires our college teachers to update themselves about their subject and pedagogy, due to various constraints, it is not possible to undergo regular refresher training programs on behalf of the majority of teachers Has, “department official Saswat said in an official letter released on Wednesday.

Keeping this situation in mind, the department is exploring the possibility of engaging with the top universities in the country to conduct online refresher courses for college teachers. Mishra has written to the Vice Chancellor of JNU requesting to consider the decision. “If you are interested, we can discuss the matter further to finalize the proposal,” the secretary urged JNU VC.

As per the terms and conditions of the proposal, refresher training should be provided in online mode in the university which has all the same characteristics as the annual refresher program in teaching of the Union Ministry of Education. This training program must be approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

This program should be organized by the university in particular in several batches of appropriate size for college teachers of Odisha. It is not necessary for the university to conduct refresher training programs in all subjects. It can identify some topics for this purpose where it has got the expertise required to conduct online refresher training programs.

Mishra said it was a win-win situation for the three stakeholders – the university, college teachers and the state government. The university will generate a lot of revenue for itself and college teachers will have the opportunity to be trained by the top universities in the country from the comfort of their home. Eventually, the state government will be able to enhance the quality of higher education in the state by ensuring regular refresher training of its college teachers by the country’s top universities.

There are plans to rope in four other top universities of the country for this purpose.
