Olympic bronze and World Cup winning hockey player Michael Kindo dies – Other sports

Michael Kondo, India’s 1975 Hockey World Cup winner and member of the 1972 Olympic bronze-winning team, died on Thursday in a hospital here due to age-related ailments. He was 73 years old, and is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.

“Michael Kindo died at Ispat General Hospital due to age related problems. A source in the family said that he had been in bed for a long time and was suffering from depression.

“His funeral will be completed tomorrow because his daughters are just arriving.” Hockey India mourns his death.

Kindo, a full-back during his playing days, was a member of the lone World Cup winning team for India in Kuala Lumpur in 1975, defeating arch-rivals Pakistan in the final. He was also on the team that won the bronze medal at the 1972 Olympics in Munich. He scored three goals in that edition of the Games.
