E-commerce platform Amazon has introduced an update for its Android app. The update brings a new feature to Alexa to enable faster payment of bills in categories such as electricity, water, post-paid mobile, cooking gas, broadband and DTH recharge.

This feature can be accessed by tapping on the microphone icon at the top of the page. The latest update comes two months after Alexa debuted on the Amazon shopping app on the Android mobile platform.

How to use the new feature

To pay the bill, users have to tap on the microphone icon on the Amazon shopping app and ask “Alexa, pay my electricity bill” or “Alexa, recharge my DTH”. Customers who have previously paid the bill will be automatically navigated to the bill page with pre-embryo details. For the first time customers will navigate to a specific bill page where they can register their account and service provider before proceeding with the bill payment.

Customers can ask Alexa to add money to their Amazon Pay account as well as perform a balance check. They have to tap on the microphone icon on the Amazon shopping app and just say “Alexa, what is my Amazon pay balance?” Or ask “Alexa, add 500 rupees to my Amazon pay balance”. They will then navigate to the ‘Add Money’ page with the pre-filled request.

The company has also announced similar features for Amazon Echo, Fire TV Stick and other devices with Alexa built-in. Users with these devices can also make contactless bill payments through Alexa. To secure these transactions, customers can enable a voice pin on the Alexa app.
