Petra Quitova reaches 1st French Open QF since 2012 – Tennis

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Quitova reached the French Open quarter-final beating Zhang Shuai 6–2, 6–4 for the first time in eight years. The seventh-seeded Czech player lost his only semi-final match at Roland Garros in 2012. Zhang had a medical timeout while trailing 5–2 in the first set.

The Quitova court was waiting on Philippe Chatrier wrapped in a pink coat to counter the chilly situation. He then did some leg exercises to keep warm. The 30-year-old Quitova will face Laura Seagmund in the next round. The unpublished German defeated Paula Badosa 7-5, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals in a major tournament for the first time.

The final week of the French Open will be crowded even after the Paris Police decides not to lower the limit to 1,000 spectators per day. Paris Police Chief Didier Laliment said the bars in Paris would be closed for two weeks from Tuesday as part of new measures to slow the coronovirus infection.

But he maintained the current limit of 1000 spectators at the sporting events in Paris and specifically mentioned clay-court tournaments at Roland Garros. The decision will come as a relief to the players.

Many said that they appreciate the audience even in very small numbers.
