Physical classes will begin in Odisha colleges, universities from January 11

BHUBANESWAR: The Higher Education Department on Sunday issued a directive to open universities and degree colleges across the state to start physical classes for students of final year undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses from January 11.

The government has taken the decision after realizing the huge academic loss of students due to improvement in the status of Kovid-19 in the state and the discontinuation of physical classroom teaching from March last year.

The department has also released exam results for final year UG and PG students and final semester test results. According to the notification, classes for the punitive semester (last semester of UG and PG final year students) will be held from January 11 to March 15, while exams for this semester will be held from March 16 to March 31. The results of this examination will be published by 30 April.

Similarly, physical classes for final semester courses will be held between April 2 and June 15, while exams will be held between June 16 and June 30. The results of this semester will be declared by 15 July.

If an institute has an annual system rather than a semester, classes will start from January 11 for final year courses and continue until June 10. The exam for this final year course will be held between June 11 and June 30 and the results will be declared by July 15.

The department has also issued guidelines for physical classroom teaching. As per the guidelines, physical classes will be conducted regularly to cover all the chapters of the syllabus despite the coverage of some chapters by on-line mode. Whenever possible, physical classroom teaching will be recorded and shared with absent students.

The hostels will be opened only from January 10 to 2020-21 final year UG / PG students as well as PhD, MPhil and other research scholars. All possible Kovid-19 prevention protocols will be followed in hostels and classrooms.

To make up for the lost days, physical class teaching will be conducted on all days except the exam period, Sunday, 26 January (Republic Day), 16 February (Saraswati Puja) and 1 April (Utkal Day).
