PM to take vote of confidence from parliament: FM

Hours after a fierce contest in the Senate elections, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi announced that Prime Minister Imran Khan would seek a vote of confidence from parliament.

He was addressing a press conference in Islamabad along with other PTI leaders including Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi and Minister for Information and Technology Fawad Chaudhry.

Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani of the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPP) and Fauzia Arshaf of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won one Senate seat each for their parties from the federal capital on Wednesday. Succeeded.

Former PPP prime minister Syed Yousuf Gilani won the general seat of the Senate from the federal capital with PTI Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh winning by 169 votes to 164.

A total of seven votes were rejected during the polling for the general seat of the Senate from the federal capital.

PTI’s Fauzia Irshad won the Women’s Senate seat from the federal capital with 174 votes, while PML-N’s Farzana Kausar got 161 votes.

A total of five votes of the members of the Assembly were rejected in this women’s seat of the Senate.

Polling continued from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the contesting candidates and their agents were present in the National Assembly, which was declared by the polling station staff through the election officials.

Zafar Iqbal Hussain, Special Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), served as the Returning Officer, overseeing the election process and later announcing the results.
