RawalpindiPakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Munira Yameen Satti died of corona virus two weeks after being diagnosed with the deadly virus.
Members of the Punjab Assembly were undergoing treatment at the Joint Military Hospital (CMH) in Rawalpindi.
Later, after Sati’s condition deteriorated, she was put on a ventilator but could not survive and breathed her last Thursday morning.
She was elected as a Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) on reserved seats for women in the Punjab Assembly during the 2018 general elections. She also served as a member of the Women’s Development Department.
Satti is the daughter of former Federal Minister Col (retd) Muhammad Yameen Satti, who served as Minister of Communications and Works from 1990 to 1993.
His funeral prayers were offered at his native village in Punjab at 2.30 pm. He was suspended by the Election Commission of Pakistan on January 16, 2019 after failing to provide a copy of his assets and liabilities. Its membership was restored on March 6, 2019.
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar expressed grief over the demise of the lawmaker and offered condolences to the bereaved family.
In December last year, PML-N Senator Kulsoom Parveen also lost his life fighting the novel Coronavirus.
A total of 34,049 cases of Covid 19 were reported in Pakistan on Thursday, with 2,482 more people testing positive for the deadly corona virus in the last 24 hours.
In the last 24 hours, Punjab had the highest number of deaths due to the virus, followed by Sindh. Out of a total of 50 deaths, 19 were recorded in Punjab.
