As a result, Special Drug Court Judge Shakir Hassan, commonly known as the Anti-Drug Court, adjourned the hearing until December 5.

At the start of the proceedings, a lawyer representing Farhad Ali Shah-Rana Sana told the judge that Azam Nazir Tarar could not attend the hearing due to his busy schedule in connection with the Punjab Bar Council elections.

The judge said in his observations that a hearing has been scheduled for the indictment and he should have presented arguments on behalf of the accused as he was also such a serious lawyer who had the power of counsel.

He remarked that he hoped the court would do justice to him. He expressed hope that “either I will be convicted in this case or Shehryar Afridi will be convicted in this case.”

The remarks about the then Home Minister Afridi came after he claimed in a press conference with the ANF Director General that he would provide all the required evidence in the matter.

Rana Sana was arrested on July 1 last year on the motorway near Ravi Toll Plaza on his way to Lahore from Faisalabad, claiming that the ANF had seized 15kg of heroin from his vehicle.

He spent months in jail before being granted bail by the Lahore High Court on December 24.
