State Bank of India (SBI) along with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and JCB International Company of Japan announced on Tuesday to launch the SBI RuPay JCB Platinum Contactless Debit Card. SBI Chief General Manager Vidya Krishnan said, “We believe that tap and pay technology on cards will simplify customers’ everyday purchases with secure and fast contactless payments.”
Yoshiki Kaneko, president and COO of JCB International Co-Press said that as more and more Indian customers are adopting digital methods of payment to transact domestically and internationally, the company is sure that this product offer is enjoyed by Cardmembers And would be appreciated.
“We are confident that our collaboration with SBI and JCB will provide cardholders with an advantage in the Indian and international markets and a unique value proposition. SBI RuPay JCB Platinum Contactless Debit Cardholders can now use their cards at millions of locations around the world, ”said NPCI COO Praveen Rai.
The card is launched on the RuPay network by SBI in collaboration with JBIB. JCB is a major global payment brand in Japan and a major credit card issuer and acquirer.
“RuPay also loves to strengthen its penetration in international markets through its network. We at NPCI strive to provide customers with an evolving and personalized shopping experience, and enhance the existing segment of RuPay card holders, ”said Rai.
Here’s how the SBI contactless debit card will work:
A release states that the card comes with a unique dual interface feature that will enable customers to do both contact and contactless transactions in the domestic market and seamless contact transactions abroad.
2. Customers will be able to make transactions at automated teller machines (ATMs) and point of sale (PoS) terminals worldwide under JCB’s network. They can also make online purchases from JCB-participating international e-commerce merchants using the card.
3. The card supports RuPay offline wallet-based transactions, enabling additional payment modes within the card. Consumers will be able to load and use offline wallets for (bus and metro) and retail (merchant) payments in India.
4. Customers must arrive at major travel destinations such as Bangkok (Thailand), Orchard Road (Singapore) and Paris (France) – JCB Plaza Lounge – the city’s exclusive lounge for JCB card members.
