New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday said it should consider “general or single online counseling” from next academic year for admission to postgraduate medical courses at the National Board of Examination (NBE) leading to degrees and diplomas and seats is. DNB (Diplomat of National Board) course in the country. A bench of Justices U Lalit and Dinesh Maheshwari, however, refused to order the Common Counseling for the current academic year to the NBE, which conducts NEET PG (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Post Graduate).

“As the petitioners have approached the court at a stage where the entire process has been done and various candidates have been allotted various courses in counseling, we are not fit to pass any direction for the current year .

The bench said in its judgment, “However, in the response filed by the Medical Council of India, we can see that in the coming years a general consultation or single online counseling will definitely take care of any complaint.” ” .

The NBE, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, was established to improve the quality of medical education and it conducts postgraduate and postdoctoral examinations. The degree conferred by the NBE is called the Diplomat of the National Board.

DNB is a postgraduate or postdoctoral diploma in which training lasts for three years and FNB is a fellowship in a sub-specialty where training lasts for two years.

The top court noted the NBE’s submission and stated that the authority agreed “in principle” to conduct general counseling from next year.

“Consequently, refusing to pass any instructions so far in relation to the current year, we hope that all of the DNB PG seats as well as all postgraduate degrees and leading counseling for degrees and diplomas The officers will be able to do general counseling … The coming years started with NEETPG 2021 exam.

The decision came on a petition filed by four medical students, directing the Center, NBE and others to conduct “single counseling” to fill seats in PG Medical and DNB courses.

Alapati Jyotsna and others had secured some rank in NEET PG test and in counseling, done by Medical Counseling Committee, they did not get degree courses of their choice.

“Their complaint is that it is expiring only after regular seats of post graduate courses for degrees and diplomas that counseling is done for DNB courses, and students who have secured any seats in courses for degrees and diplomas “They have been displaced for laying; any claim for DNB courses,” the apex court said, taking into account the complaints of the students.

The apex court, however, did not allow for general counseling for the current year after the NBE and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare took note of the submissions that now the counseling and resultant process of admission was at an advanced level.
