Chandigarh: The Punjab Police arrested seven more on Friday Amritsar to Bootlegger Tragedy mounted up to 38 in the form of tricks carried out by five teams in more than 40 raids in rural, Batala and Tarn Taran districts.
The total number of people caught so far in the case of drunken deaths has risen to eight, including Balwinder Kaur, who was arrested on Thursday night from Muchhal village under Tarsikka police station.

DGP Dinkar Gupta said, “A large quantity of spurious liquor, drums and storage cans have been recovered from the accused and sent for chemical analysis.

“Raids were on and police teams would continue to clamp down on all those involved in the case,” the DGP said.
Balwinder Kaur and Mithu were arrested from Amritsar rural district, two persons identified as Darshan Rani and Rajan were arrested from Batala district. Four others, Kashmir Singh, Angrej Singh, Amarjeet and Baljeet have been arrested from Tarn Taran.
“An FIR has been lodged against the four accused arrested for attempted murder and criminal conspiracy at the police station of Sadar, Tarn Taran. The bootleggers admitted to supplying spurious liquor in the village of Norangabad. From Jasso Nangal village The arrested Mittu has also been arrested. The DGP further said, “acknowledged his role in supplying fake liquor.”
He said that till Friday evening, 10 people died in the rural areas of Amritsar, while nine were killed in Batala and 19 in Tarn Taran. The death toll could increase further as there was clearly an alcoholic trap at many places.
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has ordered the Divisional Commissioner, Jalandhar to conduct a magisterial inquiry into the religious tragedy.
