Shehryar Afridi launches Kashmir Premier League

Kashmir Committee Chairman Shahriar Khan Afridi on Saturday launched the Kashmir Premier League (KPL) as Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s first Premier Cricket Tournament, a cultural event to raise the voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir globally. And decided to start a series of sports.

Accompanied by Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Sardar Masood Khan, the celebrated cricket icon Shahid Afridi, who is the brand ambassador of KPL, Azhar Mahmood, the head coach of KPL, the president of KPL Arif Malik and Shehzad Akhtar Chaudhry KCEO, Shehryar Afridi said that KPL should help put Kashmir on the world map.

“KPL will put Kashmir on the world sports map. We will raise Kashmir in all forums around the world. The Kashmir Committee will do its utmost to identify, preserve and promote the culture of Kashmiris. “The word ‘K’ is now a buzz word,” he said.

He said that Kashmir Premier League has been approved by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), federal government and it has the support of Kashmir and the people of Pakistan.

He said that Pakistani cricketers have become the identity of our country. “Sport helps bring people closer,” he said.

“The talents of Kashmiri youth will reach all over the world through this league. He added that Kashmiri youth have to show the world how much potential they have.

He said that after the launch of KPL, its second edition would feature KPL for women which would give Kashmir girls a chance to come forward and play cricket. He said that KPL’s logo ‘Play with freedom’ would resonate all over the world and Pakistan would continue to highlight Kashmir in forums around the world.

Shehryar Afridi also announced the appointment of the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir as the Chief Patron of KPL.

President AJK Masood Khan said that the government and Azad Jammu and Kashmir would fully support the KPL and give Kashmiri youth a chance to showcase their talents through sports.

He said that it was great to see Shahriar Afridi supporting Kashmir at all levels. He said that he would spare no effort to make KPL a success. He said that Kashmiri people have always loved cricket and KPL would go a long way in the Kashmir project at the international level.

He said that the residence of Kashmiris would be a big support to KPL and it would go a long way in presenting Kashmir and its people.

KPL President Arif Malik told the audience that KPL will have six cricket teams including Mirpur Royals, Kotli Panthers, Bagh Stallions, Rawalkot Hawks, Overseas Warriors and Muzaffarabad Tigers. He said that KPL management was indebted to Shahid Afridi who had agreed to work as a brand ambassador in KPL.

Shahid Afridi said that Kashmir was close to his heart and he would like to support the league to the best of his ability. He said that during his cracking career, he has played for many teams but he would like to play for KPL which would give him a chance to get his love back from the Kashmiri people. Do He said that he had recently visited Kashmir and was enlightened by the beauty of the area which was justified as ‘Paradise on Earth’.
