KARACHI: The Sindh Home Department said on Monday that Station House Officers (SHOs) could take action against violators of SOPs as the province imposes restrictions to curb the spread of Kovid 19.
The Home Department said in an amended notification that police inspectors could take action against violators of mandatory government operating procedures (SOPs) at offices, industries and shops.
According to the notification, police officials have been allowed to take action under Section 3 (1) of the Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act, 2014.
Powers were previously limited to Deputy and Assistant Commissioners.
“Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, concerned labor officers as well as law enforcement personnel not less than the rank of Inspector of Police (or equivalent rank of other LEAs), Additional Deputy Commissioners, Authorities and officers in charge of police stations.” Have the power to take legal action against any act in violation of this (original / amended) order or the instructions / notices issued under it under section 3 (1) of the Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act, 2014 (Sindh Act VII 2015). And Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code 1860, including proceedings under it.
The development comes as the Sindh government imposed province-wide restrictions to curb the corona virus following an increase in cases due to delta variants.
