PESHAWAR: Sonia Shamroz has become the first woman to be appointed police chief of a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
“Sonia Shamroz has been assigned to Lower Dir, announcing that for the first time in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a female police officer has been appointed district police chief,” Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police wrote on Twitter.
Last month, Anila Naz, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for Peshawar, became the first traffic police officer in KP to start checking driver’s licenses and educating people about road rules and regulations.
DSP Naz, who was promoted to the rank of DSP in the KP Vehicle Licensing Authority, said she was the first woman to hold the post at the time. He said girls’ education in his family town in Lakki Marwat had been violated, and that he had been criticized for becoming a police officer.
However, he noted that it was ironic that those who were previously angry with his decisions were now sending their own daughters to school.
