The Sports Ministry on Monday paid Rs 10 lakh for the treatment of Hockey Olympian Mohinder Pal Singh, who is suffering from a chronic kidney disease and is currently on dialysis. Funds sanctioned for sportspersons under Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund were given to his wife Shivjit Singh.
Speaking about the decision to give financial assistance to Singh, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “MP Singh ji has made a rich contribution to hockey both as a player and a coach. His physical condition is of great concern to all of us.
“Kidney treatment is a costly treatment and we want to provide as much financial support as we want.
“I have also talked to Mahesh Sharma ji, who is a Member of Parliament of Noida, where MP Singh ji lives and a letter has also been sent from his office to the PM Relief Fund to pay the hospital bills through the fund.
