States welcome decision to cancel CBSE Class 12 board exams

New Delhi: States on Tuesday welcomed the Centre’s decision to cancel CBSE Class 12 board exams this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, saying it was needed for the safety of students and teachers.

The Chief Minister of Delhi said that the announcement has come as a big relief.

He said, “I am happy that the 12th examination has been cancelled. We all were very worried about the health of our children. A big relief.”

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the decision, said a statement issued by the state’s communications department.

Punjab Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla said it was a step in the right direction, but demanded that the central government convene a meeting of all state education ministers to discuss more concerning the future of the students.

Singla lamented that the Center did not disclose the modalities or any roadmap for declaration of results for these students to take admission in higher classes.

Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma said in a statement that cancellation of the examination is in the interest of students, parents and teachers.

After CBSE, the other central board, CISCE also decided to cancel the class 12 board exams this year due to the COVID-19 situation.

Education Minister Kanwar Pal on Tuesday said that the Haryana government has also decided to cancel the class 12 examination conducted by the state board.

“We have also decided to cancel the class 12 board exams in the state, which were to be conducted by the Haryana Board of School Education,” Pal told PTI over phone.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi said that the decision to cancel the CBSE Class 12 board exams has been taken in the interest of students and the concern among students, parents and teachers should be put to rest.

Leaders of Congress and other parties were also pressurizing the Center to cancel Class 12 board exams after Class 10 exams were canceled due to the COVID situation, which worsened in April-May when The country was hit by a second deadly wave. Infection.
