Rio de Janeiro: A new study analyzing the spread of coronavirus in Brazil has found a link between the spread of the virus and the previous outbreak of dengue fever, which shows the risk of mosquito-borne disease. Cowed 19 can provide some exceptions.
The unpublished study, led by Duke University professor Miguel Nichols and shared exclusively with Reuters, compared the geographical distribution of coronavirus cases to the spread of dengue in 2019 and 2020.
Nichols found that low coronavirus infection rates and slow cases were increasing in areas that had experienced a severe dengue epidemic this year or later.
The study, citing dengue virus antibodies and the novel corona virus, said: “This astonishing discovery raises an interesting possibility of immunological cross-reactivation between the dengue flavivo virus serotypes and the stork coyote II.”
“If confirmed, this hypothesis could mean that immunizations through dengue infection or an effective and safe dengue vaccine may provide some level of protection against the coronavirus,” it added.
Nicholas told Reuters that the results were particularly interesting because previous studies had shown that people with dengue antibodies in their blood could be falsely tested positive for covid-19 antibodies, even if they had never had coronary heart disease. Will not be infected with the virus.
“This shows that there is an immune interaction between the two viruses that no one could have expected, because the two viruses are from completely different families,” Nichols added. More studies are needed to do this.
The study was being published before a peer-reviewed review on the MedArchive Preparer server and will be published in a scientific journal.
It highlights a significant link between the low incidence, mortality and growth rate of Covid 19 in Brazil, where levels of antibodies ranged from dengue were high.
Brazil has the third highest number of infections in the world, with more than 4.4 million cases. Just behind the US and India.
In states such as Old, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Mato Grosso do Sul and Minus Gerais, with high incidence of dengue last year and earlier this year, the Covid-19 needed more time to reach high community transmission levels. Was In states like Amapa, Marhano and Pare, dengue cases were low.
The team found a similar link between dengue outbreaks in other parts of Latin America, as well as in Asia and the islands in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and the slow spread of Cowed-19.
Nicholas said his team discovered dengue by accident, and an investigation into how CoVid-19 spread to Brazil found that highways were being used to distribute cases across the country. Important role
After identifying the problem-free areas on the map, the team set out to find a possible explanation. A breakthrough came when the team compared the spread of dengue to the corona virus.
“It was a shock. It was a complete accident,” Nichols said. “In science, it happens, you’re shooting at something and you hit a target you never thought you would hit.”
