Suspect detained after shooting near University of California campus

LOS ANGELES: Police have taken a suspect into custody after he was reported to have reportedly opened fire near a university campus in the US state of California.
The shooting took place near the Azusa Pacific University campus in the city of Azusa, Los Angeles County, at around 1 p.m. on Sunday, Xinhua news agency reported.
According to KABC-TV, a television station owned and operated by ABC based in Los Angeles, the suspect opened fire in the air and once fired at the car of a university janitor who was driving to work.
Azusa police searched for the suspect in the area with the help of a helicopter and finally found him.
The TV station reported that the suspect exchanged bullets with officers before being arrested.
The university tweeted that there was an “active gunshot activity” near its campus and urged the public to “shelter, stay indoors and away from windows”.
About two hours later, the university said a police emergency near its campus had been stabilized and the suspect had been taken into custody by the Azusa Police Department.
No one was hurt during the incident.
The motive behind the shooting and the identity of the suspect are not known.
