Swati meets Imran for railway development

24News News TV channel reported on Tuesday that Railway Minister Azam Khan Swati has decided to meet Prime Minister Imran Khan to take up the issue of modernization of the department.

According to sources, the minister is ready to hold an important meeting with the prime minister for this purpose. During the meeting, he said that issues of fundamental importance including Karachi Circular Railway would be discussed.

The main purpose of the meeting between the two is to resolve the outstanding issues of railway terminals, track modernization and other improvement measures, Andrani said.

According to reports, Azam Swati on Monday told the Senate Standing Committee on Railways that the tracks were being upgraded on a war footing.

He said that the Prime Minister, to whom funds of Rs. 23 billion had been requested for repairing 473 km of dangerous track, had directed the concerned officials to collect PC-1 for release of funds.

As per the directive of the Prime Minister, the railway line from Tando Adam to Khanpur would be upgraded so that the railway traffic could pass at a speed of 140 km per hour. He told the meeting that the workshops were not capable of repairing the coaches, Rs 32 billion had been spent on the signal system and the matter had been taken up with the NAB chairman.
