Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry spokesman Tariq Arian said on Saturday that the Taliban have suffered more than 480 civilian casualties in the last three months as a result of frequent suicide attacks and bombings.
“In the last three months, the Taliban have killed 487 of our civilians and wounded 1,049 others through our suicide attacks and 507 bombings,” Arion said in a statement.
The ministry spokesperson accused the Taliban of committing war crimes by attacking civilians.
“The killing of civilians is a war crime and can never be justified,” Arion said.
A bomb blast in the eastern Afghan province of Ghazni on Friday killed at least 15 civilians and injured 20 others. Two months ago, at least 24 people were killed in a suicide bombing outside an education center in the country’s capital, Kabul.
The ongoing violence in Afghanistan is taking place between both the government and the Taliban, peace talks in the Qatari capital, Doha.
The negotiations began last September after the completion of a prisoner exchange process, although a holiday is currently in effect to allow both parties the opportunity to have an internal meeting on the agenda item.
