England on Tuesday named a 14-member Twenty20 squad for the upcoming three-match series against Pakistan, with the selectors dropping players from the Test squad in the ongoing series against the Asian team.
Eoin Morgan He will captain the team with three matches played behind closed doors at Old Trafford in Manchester, when the series begins on 28 August, three days after the third and final Test in Southampton.
National selector Ed Smith said in a statement, “In this crowded international heat, the players who are currently involved in the Test match bio-safe bubble for Pakistan Test series are not in this team.”
“We want to give multi-format players some chance to rest and refresh, while still choosing a strong team for every series.”
The England and Wales Cricket Board also confirmed that assistant coach Graham Thorpe will play the head coach for this T20 series.
Paul Collingwood, who took over as head coach of England’s one-day international for the Ireland series, which ended earlier this month, will be assistant coach, while Marcus Trescothick has been appointed batting coach.
England are currently leading the Test series 1–0 after winning the first Test in Manchester, while the rain-affected second Test at Southampton was drawn after only 134.3 overs in the entire match. The third Test starts on Friday.
