By-polls in NA-75 constituency of Daska will be held on April 10, Punjab Election Commissioner Ghulam Israr announced on Saturday.
The decision was taken during a meeting on holding Daska by-elections, which was chaired by the Secretary Election Commission.
It was also decided that the Presiding Officer would have to sign “Form 45” inside the polling station. The polling agent will not leave the polling station without taking Form 45 and no political figure will be allowed to meet the returning officer while receiving the election results.
“Security will be beefed up during the elections,” Israr told the media.
Israr said staff at “controversial polling stations” had been replaced and training for new staff had been completed. “The election will be peaceful, and cameras will be installed at sensitive polling stations.”
On Friday, the Supreme Court rejected PTI’s appeal against re-polling in NA-75 Daska and upheld the first order of the Election Commission of Pakistan for re-polling in NA-75.
A bench headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the case.
PTI’s Asjad Ali Milli, who contested the by-elections, approached the SC and challenged the ECP’s decision to hold re-elections in the entire constituency.
PML-N had demanded re-polling in 109 ‘controversial’ polling stations in NA-75 Daska constituency, if not in the entire constituency.
Violence in the NA-75 by-election in February killed two people and injured several others in the shootings.
Clashes between PML-N and PTI workers resulted in deaths. The two parties had accused each other of violence, after which the Election Commission of Pakistan ordered re-polling in the entire constituency.
During Friday’s hearing, Justice Bandial said the situation in the constituency was not under control on polling day.
