Sixteen years after his arrest, the Supreme Court on Tuesday acquitted a man accused of killing Toba Tek Singh in Kamalia Tehsil, 24 News HD TV channel reported.
Ghulam Hussain was sentenced to death by a trial court for his involvement in Imran’s murder. However, when the verdict was challenged, the Lahore High Court reduced the sentence to life imprisonment.
However, this time he turned to the judiciary again and he got justice 16 years after facing injustice.
In the Supreme Court, Ghulam Hussain’s lawyer argued that the victim had been stabbed only once, but the first Information Report (FIR) cited multiple injuries. In addition, an autopsy was performed 16 hours after the murder.
The lawyer told a three-judge bench headed by Justice Mushir Alam that the FIR was registered 17 hours later while the weapon used in the murder was never recovered.
Meanwhile, the defense counsel also emphasized another strong argument that the witnesses in this case are Imran’s uncle and brother. He said that the prosecution could not prove the reason for any disagreement / enmity between the two.
