The International Olympic Committee says there will be no opponent for Thomas Bach’s re-election as president in a vote to be held in March.
Being staged in Athens, more than 100 IOC members were told that Bach was the only candidate for the presidential election at their meeting.
The formalization of the re-election of the German lawyer appears to have taken place after nearly 50 voting members publicly supported it at its annual meeting in July.
After winning an eight-year term in 2013, Bach is eligible for four more years in office. His final term will officially begin after the Tokyo Olympics on 8 August.
