The recovered lunar samples from China weigh less than the target

BEIJING: Lunar rocks obtained by a historic Chinese mission to the moon weighed less than initially targeted, but China is still willing to study the samples with foreign scientists, a mission spokesman said Monday. ۔
China became the third country to receive moon samples when its unmanned Chang Di 5 probe, named after the mythical moon goddess, brought 1.731 kilograms (3.8 pounds) of samples last month, which weighed 2 kilograms Was less than 4.4 lbs. Planned
Mission spokesman Pe Xiao said the investigation estimated that the moon’s rocks had a density of 1.6 grams per cubic millimeter, based on data from past missions in other countries.
Given this statistic, the investigation stopped sampling after only 12 hours, apparently estimating that the target had been reached.
“However, from tests, the actual density may not be that high,” PE told reporters. “We initially intended to use 22 hours to complete the surface sampling, but in reality, we stopped after 12 hours.”
He said that including the United States, but China is still open to cooperate with all countries in the study of patterns.
For years, US law has barred its space agency, NASA, from cooperating directly with China.
“We have not set sanctions between countries,” PE said. “Whether the two countries can cooperate or not is a matter for both sides.”
He said China had not yet received any requests for samples, adding that the stones were still in the pre-treatment phase.
