An election tribunal of the Sindh High Court has declared PML-N candidate Muftah Ismail eligible to contest the NA-249 by-election in Karachi. It was reported by News HD TV channel.
The tribunal on Friday dismissed Muftah Ismail’s disqualification petition and allowed him to contest by-election in NA-249 constituency.
The decision was announced on a petition filed by the Justice Lawyers Forum, challenging the approval of Muftah Ismail’s nomination papers for the NA-249 election.
The plaintiff said that the Returning Officer (RO) had illegally accepted the nomination papers of the PML-N leader despite not complying with Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.
The NA-249 seat was vacated by PTI’s Faisal Wawda, who defeated PML-N’s Shahbaz Sharif by a narrow margin of 723 votes in the 2018 general elections.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had announced by-elections on April 29.
