The use of social media by government officials is banned in Pakistan

On Sunday, the Pakistani government issued an adviser, expressing concern over the use of social media forums by officials of key government agencies and calling for an immediate end to the practice.

This advisory has been sent to the Secretaries of all the Ministries, Divisions and Chief Secretaries of all the Provinces. The adviser has appealed to officials of key government agencies to stop using social media forums, and said that some officials of key national agencies are sharing important government information on social media.

The advisory says sharing such information on social media could affect the government’s ongoing operations. The government, through advisory, has advised officials to leave all social media groups where critical information is shared. The advisory says no employee should share any confidential information on social media.

The adviser also asked government employees to identify social media groups where important information is shared to prevent such groups. The adviser says government employees should use a dual authentication system to protect their information.
