The World Health Organization (WHO) says the coronavirus is still growing rapidly

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Monday it had reported 4.4 million cases during the seventh week of the four-and-a-half-week increase last week.

The latest global figures represent a 9% increase in infections and a 5% increase in deaths in the past week.

As lockdown restrictions in England have been eased, WHO Director-General Tedros Azanom Grebassis said “confusion, complacency and incompatibility in public health measures” is prolonging the epidemic.

He said that controlling the global situation could take months, and only then would concrete steps be taken.
