With the acquisition of Metro Bus and Orange Line train services to reduce its road load and reduce air pollution, Lahore is now gearing up to run green electric buses aimed at increasing pollution in the provincial capital. Is to deal with the level, City 42 TV channel reported.

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Bazdar, while presiding over a special meeting on transport in Lahore on Wednesday, approved the project. The Chief Minister directed them to fix the rules and regulations for placing these buses on the roads of Lahore as soon as possible.

The meeting also gave the green signal to activate the vehicle inspection certification system in the city.

Addressing the meeting, Usman Bazdar said that Lahore Transport Company (LTC) would be transformed into Punjab Transport Company in which new transport inspectors, sub-inspectors and sergeants would be recruited.

Usman Bazdar said that green electric buses will run on 66 routes covering a distance of 106 km and different options are available on the table to purchase these vehicles. He directed the Transport Department to immediately finalize the recommendations in this regard.

The Chief Minister said that these electric buses would be allowed to travel to other cities of the province in public-private partnership. He added that these buses would help in combating pollution and smog and would do everything that would benefit the people.

The Chief Minister also directed to make better arrangements for cleanliness along with the Orange Line Metro train. He clarified that no compromise would be made on the issue of sanitation. He said he would pay a surprise visit to the Orange Line train to inspect the arrangements and cleanliness.

He said that for the first time public buses would be run in Koh-i-Sulaiman region. He further said that Kot Chhatta, Wahwa, Tabi Qaisarani, Taunsa and Dera Ghazi Khan would be provided excellent transport facilities at low fares.

Bazdar said that modern transport system will also be available in Faisalabad and other areas.
