TNAU receives patent for protein-based crop growth booster

COIMBATORE: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has received a patent for the technology of protein extraction for seed treatment and foil spray here. TNAU’s Seed Center conducted research to standardize seed treatment and foliar sprays with ‘protein extract’ to enhance crop growth and productivity.

A TNAU press release said Friday that spraying protein extract at a rate of 1–1.5 percent before flowering and during flowering increases crop yields by 15 percent across the crop spectrum.

When protein extracts are applied through seed coating of 40–75 per cent, the germination of crop seeds increases by about 6–8 per cent and the dry matter germinating by 10–15 per cent.

Alternatively, seed sowing can be increased by 6-10 percent depending on the crop seed before sowing soaking the pre-protein protein of 0.5 to 0.75 percent.

The products were launched as ‘Growth Nutrigold’ and ‘A Side’ as a commercial natural growth booster.

The release stated that an application for a patent was filed by scientists for the newly developed technology, which includes the product development process of extracting proteins for seed treatment and foliar spray to improve crop production.
