A top commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) from Pakistan was among the two terrorists killed by security forces in an encounter on Monday in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
The two murders raised the number of militants killed in Srinagar to 18 this year. Since 6 October, 10 militants have been killed in the Kashmir Valley in four separate operations and one attack.
Officials said that a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Srinagar Police and CRPF in Rambagh area.
“During the search operation, as soon as the presence of the terrorists was detected, they were given the opportunity to surrender after evacuating all the civilians. However, the police fired indiscriminately on the joint search party, which was retaliated, killing two Lashkar terrorists, ”a police spokesman said.

The slain militants were identified as top Lashkar commander Saifullah (a Pakistani national) and Irshad Ahmed Dar alias Abu Usma, a resident of Pulwama, who had been active since May-2019 and involved in several civilian killings and attacks.
“The important fact of today’s operation is that Saifullah, a top Lashkar terrorist has been killed from Pakistan. He was involved in three major attacks in the past, ”Dilbag Singh, Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir (DGP) said in a press conference.
Saifullah infiltrated earlier this year and shifted its base from north to south Kashmir two months ago.
The DGP said it was involved in planning and carrying out terrorist attacks on security forces, including the killing of a CRPF officer in Chadoura on 24 September, two CRPF personnel in Kandizal area of Pampore on 5 October. He was also involved in this group in the killing of two police personnel in Naugam Srinagar on 14 August.
Considering the prevailing epidemic caused by Kovid-19, the bodies of slain militants will be sent to Baramulla for burial after completion of all medicinal-legal formalities.
18 militants killed in 8 encounters in Srinagar
The DGP said that there have been eight encounters in Srinagar this year.
“This is the first time in 2020 that there have been eight encounters in the city of Srinagar so far, in which we have been successful in neutralizing 18 terrorists,” he said.
The DGP said that the security forces were not allowing the terrorists to set foot in the city despite their repeated efforts.
“So Lashkar and all, they are trying to gain a foothold in the city, but our intelligence network is quite good and whenever they try to gain a foothold in the city, we are able to find out and take care of it Go, ”he said.
“Srinagar is an active terrorist and two others are involved in terrorist activities. The search is on and I am sure he will be brought to justice, ”he said.
