UK lockdown: UK intensifies second covid-19 lockdown outbreak

London: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was on Monday pointing to a second national lockdown as an economic recovery threatens a swift coronavirus outbreak to destroy any shootings and send millions back in isolation.
The United Kingdom already has the largest official COVID-19 death in Europe – and the fifth-largest in the world – while it is borrowing record amounts in an effort to pump emergency money through a damaged economy.
But new COVID-19 cases in Britain are increasing by at least 6,000 per day, with hospital admissions doubling every eight days, according to week-long data, and the test system is inundated.
The government’s chief medical officer Chris Whitty said on Monday, “Its trend in Britain is heading in the wrong direction and we are at a critical point of the epidemic.”
Johnson is due to speak on Tuesday.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the restrictions would be different from last time: the government wants to tighten up on socialization but schools and many workplaces will remain open.
“If we have to take action, it will be different from last time and we have learned a huge amount on how to deal with the virus,” he told ITV.
“Schools are not where there is much broadcasting, it is more about socializing people,” he said.
Asked about Christmas and if people would be able to hug their relatives, he said he wanted it to be normal.
“If it gets out of control, we will have to take huge steps in the future,” Hancock said.
The official death toll in Britain is 41,777.
