KARACHI: US guided missile cruiser USS Monterey (CG61) arrived at Karachi port on Tuesday on a two-day visit. Cruiser is stationed with Eisenhower Career Strike Group (IKE CSG).
During the voyage, US Embassy Charge d’Affaires Leslie Vagueri boarded the ship and met with crew.
“The military-to-military relationship between the United States and Pakistan is strong and enduring,” Chargo Vagiri said. “Through staff exchanges and joint exercises, we are working together to protect the world’s most important shipping lanes, anti-piracy and counter-terrorism. Visiting Monterey, the Board, Search and Seagull (VBSS) team also enhanced bilateral maritime security capabilities and cooperation through exchange of subject matter expertise with their Pakistani counterparts.
Capt. Joseph A. Biggate, Monterey’s commanding officer, said: “The Monterey staff was very excited to be in Pakistan.
“It is important that we continue to work with regional and allied partners and strengthen our mutual commitment to maritime security and stability.”
While in the Fifth Fleet, IKE CSG is working and training with regional and allied partners and providing naval aviation support to Operation Hereditary Solutions.
The 5th Fleet of Operation covers an area of about 2.5 million square miles of water and includes the Arabian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, the Red Sea and parts of the Indian Ocean. The expansion covers 20 countries and includes three intersections that are important for the free flow of trade.
All aspects of the port visit were planned and the measures taken by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Department of Defense (DOD), and the host country to reduce CoV 19 were fully implemented. Was
