US says air strike kills 7 al-Qaeda leaders in Syria

Washington: The US believes it killed seven senior al-Qaeda leaders in airstrikes in Syria last week as the leaders were meeting near Idlib, the US Central Command said on Monday. Central Command spokesman Major Beth Riordan said the strike was organized on 22 October. He did not identify the seven leaders.
“The removal of these AQ-S leaders will hamper terrorist organizations’ ability to threaten US citizens, our allies and innocent civilians, and to carry out global attacks,” he said.
“AQ-S leverages instability to establish and maintain safe havens to coordinate terrorist activities in northwest Syria,” he said.
“Together with our allies and allies, we will continue to target al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations.” The US also launched an airstrike against al-Qaeda in Syria, near Idlib, on 15 October.
