US speaker revokes rule after Trump acquits

Washington: On Saturday (local time) after the Senate voted to acquit Donald Trump, speaker Nancy Pelosi said she was against the prospect of stopping the former US president in the Senate because it would be just a “little slap on the wrist”.
Pelosi said, “The censor is a slap in opposition to the Constitution. It gets everyone off the hook.
She further stated that it has been done on people not to incite the capital riot but to “use stationery for the wrong purpose”.
“Oh, these cowardly senators who could not face the president and what was at stake for our country, now is going to get a little slap on the wrist?” she added.
Pelosi said the House was going to investigate everything in relation to the January 6 incidents in the Capitol to ensure that such incidents do not happen again in the US.
Trump’s acquittal comes after a month of Trump supporters crowding the US Capitol as legislators were counting the electoral results that quantified his loss. Five people died in the riots, including a police officer.
According to a CNN report, Trump was acquitted even after joining 50 Democrats voting to convict seven Republican senators, with fewer than 17 needed.
The vote was 57–43, with seven Republicans and senators requiring a two-thirds majority to convict Trump.
Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called the Senate decision “un-American”.
“The former president inspired, instructed, and led a mob to violently stop the peaceful transfer of power, overturn the will of the people and illegally hold that president in power,” Schumer said.
“Nothing is more UN-American than nothing … Nothing is more hostile to our democracy, degrading to generations of American nationalists who gave their lives to protect our government, ” They said.
