US talks with Russia on Ukraine urge Moscow to ease tensions

Washington: The United States is open to tussle with Russia over Ukraine and has called for Moscow to avoid exacerbating the situation on the border, a spokesman for the US State Department said.
According to Sputnik’s report, the spokesman said on Monday, “We are ready to join with Moscow.”
The spokesman reiterated United States concerns regarding the escalating situation in eastern Ukraine, referring to “credible reports” about alleged Russian troop movements near the border.
The spokesman said, “The movement preceded the July 2020 ceasefire violation in which four Ukrainian soldiers were killed and two others were injured on 26 March.” “We call on Russia to refrain from taking action.
Earlier on Monday, Sputnik reported that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow takes necessary steps in its own territory.
The Ukrainian parliament made a statement last week declaring the “Federation” exposed, citing “a significant increase in shelling and armed provocation by the armed forces of the Russian Federation”.
Ukraine, which represents NATO’s borderline in Eastern Europe against Russian expansion, pressured Western governments to “continue and increase international political and economic pressure on Russia”.
Meanwhile, other countries such as Germany and France are calling on conflicting parties in southeastern Ukraine (Donbas) amid an increase in ceasefire violations, the German and French foreign ministries said in a joint statement said.
Ukraine and Russia have been embroiled in a deadly conflict since the annexation of Crimea in 2014. Moscow continues to support separatist rebels fighting in the eastern Donbas region of Ukraine.
